The Bowen Hunter Open Cut Geotechnical Society (BOHOGS) held its Annual General Meeting on November 27, 2025, at The Sebel Hotel Brisbane and via Teams.

Highlights from 2025

  • Active Year: BOHOGS participated in a range of industry events, including site visits, technical forums, university engagement days, and workshops. Notable events included the Saraji Site Visit, multiple Brisbane Technical Forums, the QUT Industry Networking Evening, and the Rock Laboratory Testing Workshop.
  • Strong Sponsorship: The society was supported by a diverse group of sponsors, with GroundProbe and Hexagon as Premium Platinum+ sponsors, alongside Platinum, Gold, and Silver sponsors from across the geotechnical and mining sectors.
  • Financial Health: BOHOGS reported a closing balance of $37,126.95, reflecting healthy sponsorship income and active engagement in technical meetings and merchandise initiatives.

Committee Updates

  • 2025 Committee: The outgoing committee was led by Chair Jiwoo Ahn (Rocscience), with key roles filled by members from BHP, GroundProbe, Stanmore, Mackin Group Mining, Gale Norrie Geotechnical, and others.
  • 2026 Committee: The new committee was elected, with Glen Guy (Encompass Mining) as Chair and Alex Hossack (Cartledge Mining and Geotechnics) as Vice Chair. Other roles were filled by returning and new members, ensuring continuity and fresh perspectives.

AGM Proceedings

  • Attendance: The meeting saw strong participation both in-person and online, with a broad representation from industry professionals, academics, and young members.
  • Meeting Minutes: Key agenda items included the year in review, financial summary, and the nomination and selection of the 2026 committee.
