Another BOHOGian year down! Thanks to all who participated by attending, presenting and being an active member of the committee, as well as our BBUGS colleagues for their efforts to put on our joint events. Below is a summary of our events in 2017:
- 23 March – University of Queensland Meeting, QLD
- 8 April – Glendell Mine Site Visit & Technical Meeting, NSW
- 9 May – Peak Downs Site Visit and Technical Meeting, QLD
- 22 July – University of Newcastle Meeting, NSW
- 15 September – BBUGS/BOHOGS BBQ at UQ
- 24 & 25 October – I-Site training session – Brisbane
- 9 November – BBUGS and BOHOGS Suppliers Day, QLD
- 6 December – Coppabella Mine site visit and meeting
A few notes on some of this year’s meetings:
- The Bengalla Mine visit and technical meeting (17 Feb) Radar monitoring and TARP levels presentations and discussions (led by John Simmons)
- Peak Downs (9 May): Once more “Radar monitoring and TARP trigger levels” was discussed, also led by John S. An attempt is to be made to canvas members for site TARP triggers and associated information. A SurveyMonkey survey is being compiled.
- Galena and I-Site training – Brisbane (24 & 25 Oct): Galena training postponed to a date to be determined. Good feedback on the I-Site training session.
BOHOGS Member Survey:
The first notification was not received by all members due to an issue with MailChimp and the firewalls of certain companies. A second invitation to these two “SurveyMonkey” surveys was sent out at the end of July
The amended constitution was read by 20 respondents who all accepted the changes. The amended constitution has now been accepted by the members and will be posted on our website for reference. The main change is that due to our geographic “spread” it is very difficult to arrange an AGM where we can get a good cross section of our members. The AGM will now be held electronically (an eAGM) and this needs to happen before the end of the calendar year.
BOHOGS Awards:
This year out Geotechnical practitioner of the year was Gavin Lowing for significant contribution to the field of Open Cut geotechnical engineering. Kim Peckett and Jordan Harmann both received the Service Awards for their outstanding service to the BOHOGS group.
BOHOGS Sponsors:
Once again thanks to our sponsors!! Without your support, this group would not be viable. If you or your company would like to sponsor BOHOGS, please contact one of the committee. Sponsorship provides great advertising opportunities and a chance to reach the open cut geotechnical community in QLD/NSW through presentations, networking and collaboration.
