About Clermont Open Cut Coal Mine:
Clermont Open Cut located 120km from the town of Emerald is operated by Glencore, and mines Permian coal from thick seams in a satellite basin on the western edge of the Bowen Basin. The deposit is structurally complex and overlain by thick Cenozoic sediments and volcanics. Geotechnical conditions are complicated by weak surfaces, seam and tectonic structure, and adverse groundwater pressure conditions that together present complex challenges for mine planning and slope design. Presentations will be made by site personnel and a pit tour will be provided if weather conditions permit.
