What is the GroundProbe Geotechnical Scholarship?

The Scholarship is a fully funded program for 2nd, 3rd and 4th year Engineering students from Australia and Papua New Guinea with an interest in Geotechnical Engineering.

This year, six students will take part in two weeks of full-time training at GroundProbe’s largest Geotechnical Monitoring Centre in Balikpapan, Indonesia from 17–28 November, including cultural experiences.

The program is followed by nine site visits to locations close to students, including sites in PNG, Bowen Basin (QLD), Hunter Valley (NSW), or Goldfields (WA) during their first semester of December.

Students gain advanced geotechnical knowledge and learn to interpret data from Slope Stability Radars (SSRs) remotely and on-site.

What will you learn?

You will work alongside professional geotechnical monitoring engineers to interpret and analyze live radar data from around the world, and experience live slope failure monitoring prediction.

  • Professional Geotechnical Certification

Who can apply?

You must be:

  • A current 2nd, 3rd or 4th year student studying geology, mining or civil engineering at a PNG or Australian University
  • Available to travel for: 17–28 November 2025
  • Agree to participate in a video series documenting the program, including personal VLOGs
