The BOHOGS committee would like to wish everyone a happy new year, we hope that everyone enjoyed some well deserved time of with family and friends over the holiday period.

This is just a brief update to close out a few items that are lingering from 2014…

NSW BOHOGS GALENA Training and HVO Site Visit (6th and 7th Nov)

Another successful event with 11 attendees for the GALENA training (6th Nov) and 13 members turning out for the HVO presentations and site visit (7th Nov). Feedback for the GALENA training was good, with everyone in attendance taking something from the meet. Presentations on the Friday were provided by Miles Thompson (Overview of HVO & Groundwater in Cheshunt Endwall) and Kai Koosmen (Slope Optimisation Adjacent to the Hunter River), a group discussion was led be John Simmons on the affect of groundwater on slope stability. Thanks to everyone who contributed to the event.

Suppliers Day (Wednesday 26th Nov)

BOHOGS joined forces with BBUGS to host the suppliers day in Moranbah (26th Nov), the day was a great success however the attendance from BOHOGS members was a little lackluster along with a lack of committee member attendance also. In true BOHOG collaborative spirit though, Rachel Metcalf, Chris Oldroyd and Gaving Lowing stepped up to represent the committee at the event – A big thank you to those three. We hope to put something in place to ensure that some committee members will be in attendance next year.

The event also provided us with the opportunity to recognise some of our members’ achievements and support throughout the year. Awards for highest attendance were presented to John Simmons and Rachel Metcalf acknowledging their continued support of BOHOGS with attendance records at 80% or higher for all BOHOGS events in 2014. Members voted Leonie’s “Shear Strength Estimation for Very High Dumps” as the NSW Presentation of the Year, while John’s “Measuring the Implementation of Slope Designs: Risk Management Lessons for Geotechnical Engineers” was voted as the QLD Presentation of the Year…. Congratulations!
